FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

From Marketplace to supplemental plans, we’ll help you find the right fit anywhere you live.

What We Do
Who We Are
1. Can I enroll in health insurance outside of Open Enrollment?

Yes. You may qualify for a Special Enrollment Period if you’ve had a major life change.
Normally, you can only sign up for Affordable Care Act (ACA) health insurance during the annual Open Enrollment Period. However, if you’ve had a qualifying life event—such as moving, getting married, having a baby, adopting a child, or losing other health coverage—you may be eligible for a Special Enrollment Period. This gives you a limited window, usually 60 days, to select a new plan. Even if you don’t qualify for ACA enrollment, there may be alternative options such as short-term medical coverage. Our licensed agents will walk you through your eligibility, timelines, and plan choices so you don’t experience a gap in coverage.

2. What’s the difference between ACA (Marketplace) plans and short-term medical plans?

ACA plans are comprehensive, while short-term plans are temporary and flexible.
ACA marketplace plans include essential health benefits, preventive care, prescription coverage, and protections for pre-existing conditions, often with subsidies. Short-term medical plans are designed for temporary coverage gaps, usually lower in cost but with limitations. Choosing the right option depends on your situation, budget, and health needs. At ASSA Insurance Group, we’ll help you compare both types to determine the best fit.

3. Can you help me find coverage in my state?

Yes — we’re able to help you find coverage 50 states.
ASSA Insurance is able to write policies nationwide, so we can guide you no matter where you live. Each state has different carriers and networks, but we’ll compare options for your specific location. Whether you live in Florida, California, or anywhere in between, we’ll help you secure coverage that works for you.

4. How do health insurance subsidies work?

Subsidies lower monthly premiums based on income and household size.
Health insurance subsidies, or premium tax credits, reduce the cost of ACA health plans. Eligibility is based on household size, income, and location. Subsidies are applied directly to your premium, and some families also qualify for cost-sharing reductions that lower deductibles and copays. We’ll calculate your eligibility and help you maximize savings.

5. Can I keep my doctor with a new plan?

It depends on the plan’s provider network.
Each plan has a list of in-network providers. If you want to keep your doctor, we’ll check which plans include them before you enroll. This way, you get coverage that maintains continuity of care and avoids surprise out-of-network costs.

6. What happens if I move to another state?

Moving qualifies you for a Special Enrollment Period.
Since health insurance is regulated by state, moving means you’ll likely need a new plan. The good news: relocation allows you to change coverage outside Open Enrollment. ASSA Insurance works nationwide, so we’ll transition you smoothly and help find a plan in your new state.

7. Are pre-existing conditions covered?

Yes, under ACA-compliant plans.
ACA health plans cover pre-existing conditions without exclusions. Short-term and supplemental plans may limit or exclude them, so it’s important to know the difference. We’ll explain your options clearly to ensure your health history won’t block you from getting covered.

8. Do you offer Medicare plans?

No — we focus on private health insurance, not Medicare.
ASSA Insurance specializes in individual and family health insurance, short-term coverage, accident and hospital plans, and dental/vision benefits. We do not sell Medicare plans. For Medicare, we recommend working with a dedicated Medicare advisor.

9. What’s the difference between deductible, copay, and coinsurance?

They’re the three main ways you share costs with your insurer.
 — Deductible: The amount you pay before coverage begins. — Copay: A fixed fee for certain services. — Coinsurance: The percentage you owe after deductible.
We’ll make sure you understand these terms before you choose a plan.

10. How do Accident, Sickness, and Hospital plans work?

They pay cash benefits directly to you for covered events.
These supplemental plans provide direct cash for accidents, sickness, or hospital stays. The money goes to you, not the hospital, and can help cover deductibles, copays, bills, or everyday expenses. They’re not a replacement for health insurance, but a smart add-on for extra protection.

11. Can I bundle dental and vision coverage with health insurance?

Yes—affordable add-ons are available.
Dental and vision coverage can be bundled with health insurance for complete care. Dental plans cover cleanings, exams, and procedures, while vision covers exams, glasses, and contacts. Bundling saves money and keeps everything under one plan for simplicity.
