Individual & Family Plans

What Is Individual & Family Health Coverage?

Often referred to as Affordable Care Act (ACA) plans, major medical insurance, or “Obamacare,” these policies meet all ACA requirements and are among the most comprehensive options available. They’re designed to protect you and your family from high medical costs, whether for ongoing care, routine services, or unexpected emergencies.

If you have a chronic condition or face a serious medical event, this type of plan can help safeguard your finances against overwhelming expenses.

How Do These Plans Work?

ACA-compliant insurance provides broad coverage for both inpatient and outpatient care. Benefits typically include:

  • Routine doctor visits

  • Prescription medications

  • Preventive care and screenings

  • Hospital stays and emergency care

  • Specialist visits and more

Importantly, you cannot be denied coverage due to preexisting conditions, and you’ll have the security of knowing your costs are capped by annual deductibles and out-of-pocket maximums.

Is Individual & Family Insurance Right for You?

This type of plan may be a good fit if you:

  • Want coverage that goes beyond basic check-ups and physicals

  • Prefer the financial protection of set out-of-pocket maximums

  • Can budget for a higher monthly premium in exchange for stronger overall protection

Short-Term Medical

What Is Short-Term Medical Insurance?

Short-Term Medical (STM) insurance provides temporary medical coverage for times when you’re between major health plans, outside of open enrollment, or simply need protection in case of an unexpected event. These plans are available year-round, offering flexibility when you need it most.

Short term plans are often more affordable than traditional health insurance and are designed to bridge coverage gaps. They include features such as co-pays, deductibles, and maximum out-of-pocket costs—so you’ll know your financial responsibility upfront. This can help protect you from large, surprise medical bills if a major health issue arises.

Short-Term Medical coverage may be the right fit if you:

  • Want a lower-cost alternative to comprehensive health plans

  • Need coverage you can cancel anytime without penalties

  • Prefer a range of plan designs that can fit your specific needs

  • Like the option of co-pays for doctor or specialist visits—even before meeting your deductible

  • Are looking for coverage that’s based on your health, not your income

Accident, Sickness & Hospital

What Is Accident, Sickness & Hospital Insurance?

Accident, Sickness & Hospital (ASH) plans—sometimes called fee-for-service plans—give you the freedom to choose your own doctors, specialists, and hospitals without requiring referrals or a primary care provider. The insurance company pays a set portion of your total charges, and coverage can often begin immediately, with guaranteed acceptance in many cases.

With an ASH plan, you have the flexibility to direct your own care:

  • See any physician, specialist, or hospital you prefer

  • In many cases, receive coverage starting with your very first claim

  • Pay up front for care (in some plans) and submit claims for reimbursement

  • Benefit from first-dollar coverage, where the insurer begins paying from your first claim without requiring you to meet a deductible

In some situations, a deductible may apply. Once it’s met, the insurer generally covers a percentage of the usual, customary, and reasonable (UCR) rate—the standard amount healthcare providers charge in your area.

This type of plan may be a good fit if you:

  • Want maximum freedom in choosing doctors, specialists, or hospitals

  • Prefer not to designate a primary care physician or get referrals

  • Value the ability to visit any provider without restrictions

Dental & Vision Insurance

What Are Dental & Vision Plans?

Dental and Vision insurance plans help cover routine and unexpected care for your teeth and eyes—two areas often not included in traditional health coverage. These plans are designed to keep preventive care affordable while also protecting you from high out-of-pocket costs if more extensive treatment is needed.

With a wide range of options available, you can choose plans that fit your personal or family needs, whether you’re looking for basic coverage or more comprehensive benefits.

How Do These Plans Work?

Dental and Vision plans generally provide:

  • Preventive care benefits such as cleanings, exams, and screenings at little or no cost

  • Coverage for treatments like fillings, crowns, root canals, or periodontal services

  • Vision benefits including annual eye exams, allowances for glasses or contact lenses, and discounts on corrective procedures

  • Networks of providers that help keep your costs lower, while still offering the option to see out-of-network providers at different rates

Most plans include copays, deductibles, and annual benefit maximums, so you’ll know your potential costs and coverage levels in advance.

These plans may be a good fit if you:

  • Want affordable access to preventive care to maintain long-term oral and eye health

  • Need financial protection from the high cost of major dental procedures or vision correction

  • Prefer flexible plan designs to fit individual or family needs

  • Would like regular check-ups, cleanings, and eye exams without worrying about unexpected bills

Health Share Plans

What Are Health Share Plans?

Health Share Plans—sometimes called Health Care Sharing Ministries or Medical Cost-Sharing Programs—are membership-based organizations where individuals and families come together to share one another’s medical costs. Unlike traditional insurance, these programs are not issued by an insurance company or regulated as insurance. Instead, members contribute a set monthly amount, which is then used to help pay for eligible medical needs within the community.

How Do These Plans Work?

Community
Each month, members pay a monthly share amount (similar to a premium) that goes toward helping other members with their medical bills. When you have a qualifying medical expense, you submit your bills to the organization for review, and eligible expenses are shared among the group.

Most programs include:

  • Defined guidelines for what is and isn’t shareable

  • Personal responsibility amounts (similar to deductibles)

  • Networks or provider options for lower negotiated rates

  •

Because these are not insurance plans, they often have lower monthly costs but may also have more limitations and exclusions.

Is a Health Share Plan Right for You?

Health Share Plans can be a good fit for individuals and families who:

  • Are generally healthy and want lower monthly costs

  • Don’t qualify for or prefer not to purchase ACA-compliant insurance

  • Value community-based support and transparency in healthcare costs

However, these plans may not be ideal for those needing guaranteed coverage for pre-existing conditions or certain preventive services. It’s important to review plan guidelines carefully and understand what expenses may or may not be shared.

Minimal Essential Coverage (MEC) Plans

What Are MEC Plans?

Minimum Essential Coverage (MEC) plans are affordable, preventive-care focused health plans that meet the ACA’s basic coverage requirements. They’re designed to provide essential wellness benefits—such as annual checkups, screenings, and vaccines—without the cost of a major medical policy.

How Do These Plans Work?

MEC plans cover 100% of ACA-mandated preventive services when you use in-network providers. These plans do not provide full major medical coverage but are a popular option for:
